Short Bio
Kate Hazel Hall writes fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on fantasy, magical realism and speculative YA. She has a PhD in Literary Studies from Deakin University, where she teaches graduate research skills and genre studies. Kate lives and works on unceded Wadawurrung country, in the south-west of Australia. From Darkness (Duet Books, November 2020) is her first novel. Kate is also the creative director of Q-Lit: Queer Victorian Festival of Words, launching and touring across regional Victoria in 2023.

Kate Hazel Hall has published short stories and creative non-fiction for adults, but YA fiction is where her heart is, especially fantasy, magical realism, and speculative YA. When she isn’t writing, Kate often sneaks off to the forest or the beach with a sketchbook and a surfboard. Kate works, surfs and writes on Wadawurrung country, teaching graduate research skills and genre studies. Kate lives with her daughters and Tippy the rescue cat in a small coastal town, just across the Southern Ocean from Antarctica. From Darkness (Duet Books, November 2020) is her first novel. Kate is the creative director of Q-Lit: Queer Victorian Festival of Words. The festival, proudly supported by Midsumma/Vic Pride and the Vic Government Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, will tour regional Victoria in 2023.
